Back Patio Makeover

Living in Texas, you just never know what the weather will look like from day to day. Over the summer, the temperatures rise above 100 degrees, while in the winter we’re known to get snow and ice one week, and 80 degrees the next.

With warm and sunny days throughout the year, a beautiful pool view, and a movie projector for nightly TV watching, we knew we would use our back patio year-round. We started with painting our siding a matte black to make the space feel more modern. Next, we added a cedar ceiling that my Dad, Father-n-law and husband actually did themselves. Copper accents  were the original inspiration for the space, so I picked up a few copper side tables, lanterns and sconces to finish off the look. But if you ask me, the first two things you notice when you walk out on our back patio are our new Haiku Home fans.

If you’ve ever heard of Big Ass Fans, then you’re already one step ahead. Haiku Home is a part of the Big Ass Solutions company. They are the makers of Big Ass Fans, Big Ass Lights, and of course their more “residential” product, Haiku Home. Big Ass Solutions is well known for their oversized, high-quality and industrial/modern looking fans. Chad and I had always wanted one in our home or patio, but knew they were too large for our space. That’s why we were elated to discover their residential-friendly fans from Haiku Home. There was no going back – we found the perfect modern fans for our back patio.

We ordered the 52″ Outdoor Haiku Luxe Series in Black. They have such a great contrast with our cedar ceiling and worked really well with our matte black siding. You can also get them in White, Satin, Nickel or Oil Rubbed Bronze, but the black was our particular favorite. What I love most about these fans is that they look sleek in design, but are also practical and durable as well.  The materials for these fans were selected specifically for the outdoors, so they’ll never corrode. The composite and aluminum airfoils are also designed to never droop, wobble or fade in appearance. They also make ZERO noise, which makes family movie nights even more relaxing — well, as relaxing as they can be with a 16 month old and 4 month old!

Here are some before and afters of the space:
