Our Big Move: From the City to the Country

category: ,

If you’ve been following along over the past few months, you might have noticed a few changes. Not only has my blog and branding changed (from The Blissful Bee to AmyHorany.com — pronounced hooray-knee if you’re wondering), but we’ve also made a big move for our family as well. We gave up city life to move closer to family and to build a future for our own little family. Both of us have lived in Fort Worth our entire adult lives, but I have to say, I finally feel like we’re home.

We made the decision to list our Fort Worth home “for sale by owner” last spring. It was a hard decision, and it took some getting used to, but we knew it was the right choice for us. We poured our heart and soul into our Fort Worth renovation, but deep down we knew we needed to live closer to family. We wanted our children to grow up near their grandparents and cousins. We wanted to attend our nephew’s Tuesday night football games. We wanted to have spur-of-the-moment dinners with our parents. We wanted to have short “drop-ins” that didn’t have to be planned a week or two in advance. We wanted the feel of small town life. Oh. And we wanted good schools. For heavens sake, we wanted GOOD schools.

After a few months on the market, we ended up selling our home to the sweetest family EVER. They have two young kiddos (just like us) and we felt so excited to pass our home off to another young family that would love it just as much as we did.

The last few months have been busy to say the least, but our most exciting new project has to be the build of our new home in a new development just about 30 miles north of Fort Worth. It’s located in what we would consider “the country,” but has all the amenities you could possibly imagine. It’s a master planned community, and my goodness, I’m obsessed.

As soon as I drove through the neighborhood, it instantly felt like home. The community is completely family-focused and filled with young families, just like ours. There is a lake, parks on every corner, a workout facility, and even a community manager who plans events for the neighborhood on a daily basis. Seriously. I’m in heaven.

For now, we’re living in a rental until our home is ready. Our completion date for the new house is around March or so. We’ve had a ton of rain over the last few weeks, so hopefully it doesn’t push the build back too long. But either way, we’re currently renting in the neighborhood, so we’re still getting to enjoy the area while we build. We have the perfect rental for the next few months, so I really can’t complain.

More updates to come soon. I’ll be sharing our home plans and interior design inspirations over the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned!
